 Qualifying for Regional Championships

  • Qualifying events for the Elite and Age Group categories only, for admission to the Spartan World Championship and Regional Championships, are categorized as follows:
    • Regular Season = any Stadion, Sprint, Super, Beast or Ultra on the Spartan calendar
    • Elite or Age Group Series = any race belonging to one of these competitive series, which includes 3K short-course events
    • Regional/National Championship = a regional level competitive event such as the European Championship and Pan American Championship
    • Wildcard = any other race designed by Spartan as a “points eligible” event, made public on a case-by-case basis
  • All qualifying events are worth points for Elite and Age Group competitors:
    • Regular Season = 1 point
    • Elite or Age Group Series = 3 points
    • Wildcard = 3 points
    • Regional/National Championship = 5 points
  • Elite and Age Group competitors always earn the same points.
    • A competitor may earn points in both categories, however Elite athletes also racing against Age Group is considered unsportsmanlike and poor form, except in the case where an Elite athlete intends to make a permanent (downward) shift to the Age Group category.
    • Racers will only earn points for the same category they competed in. Racers wishing to earn a spot in the Age Group category must earn points in Age Group heats.

  • 4 points are required to earn one spot at a Spartan Regional Championship.*
  • Any combination of events can be completed to earn the minimum number of qualifying points for a gated event.
  • Total qualifying spots may be capped or limited at Spartan’s discretion.
  • Points are awarded regardless of an athlete’s finishing position. Points can not be transferred, even if more than 5 points are earned.
  • Once awarded, a unique registration code shall be issued to the competitor via email within 14 days

*Qualification into a regional championship does not guarantee entry into the 3K event. The 3K event will be invitation only with priority registration given to select athletes at Spartan’s discretion. Any spots remaining will be offered to qualified athletes on a first come first serve basis and will be extremely limited.

Determining Which Regional Championships Regular Season Events Qualify For

The geographical region where a regular season event is held determines which championship Elite and Age Group athletes qualify for.

For example, a regular season race held in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States would qualify Elite and Age Group athletes attending that event for the North American Championship, as Boston is located within North America.

  • Japan National Championship
  • Australia National Championship

Please note, these top racers will have a two-week period to secure their spots, after which any unclaimed spots will be opened up to the general qualifiers.

2023 Trifecta World Championship:

You can sign up prior to earning your Trifecta but must complete it prior to November 1st, 2023. Anyone signed up for this event who has not completed a TRIFECTA will be removed from Trifecta World Championship ranking WITHOUT a refund on November 1st, 2023. By committing to this event, you are committing to a TRIFECTA. Be sure to sign up for your races if you have not done so already.

Elite, Age Group, and Open racers are welcome. You must be 18 years old on race day to be able to participate in the Trifecta World Championship. This event is meant to celebrate all Trifecta Tribe members. Racers will test their grit to earn unique Trifecta World Championship finisher swag.

Elite and Age Group racers will be eligible for Trifecta World Championship awards and prizes. Rankings will be based on racers’ cumulative time across all three distances. Sunday’s Beast race of the Elite category will feature a staggered Start: racers’ start times will be determined based on their combined time from the Sprint and Super.

  • The racer with the fastest combined time will start first.
  • The remaining racers will start based on the time difference between them and the racer with the fastest combined time (For example Joe’s combined race time for the Sprint and super is 2:05:30 and Tom’s time is 2:06:00. Which means Joe will start the beast first and Tom will be released 30-seconds later).
  • Any Racer with a combined time more than 15 minutes slower than the leader will be released 15 minutes after the start.
  • All AGE GROUP brackets will have their own start waves for the Beast.

Qualifying for the Trifecta World Championship:

All heats (Elite, AG, and Open) must complete at least 1 Trifecta in 2022 or 2023. For more information on Trifecta please see the Trifecta FAQ.
